One of the advantages of living 1000 miles from the closest big city is that you don't have to travel fare to get away from light pollution. The scouts went camping at a place called Ellery Big Hole about 50 miles west of Alice Springs and this is what the nighttime sky looked like. (It actually looks like this every time we go camping) There was a quarter moon which drown out some of the stars but it was impressive nonetheless. So wish I knew someone with one of those $5000 autotracking telescopes.
