The Alice Springs 2013 Camel Cup

When you live 1500 kilometers from the nearest city, you kind of have to make your own fun.  So for the past 43 years or so Alice Springs has hosted the Camel Cup.  It's not the Kentucky Derby but people come from all over to compete for 20,000 dollars in prize money.   So scroll down and enjoy some scenes from this famous race dedicated to the ships of the desert.
This is the parade before the race.  Just like they do in the Olympics.

This boat is from the Henley on the Todd.  Another famous yearly event in Alice.

Some camels just aren't motivated to win

For such large animals they can giddyup and go.
