Mount Sonder Hike

The Scouts went to hike Mount Sonder, the highest peak in the McDonnell Ranges.   In all it was a 10.5 mile hike ascending 2300 feet.  All in a balmy  > 100 degree temperature.  At least it's a dry heat.

As you can see the shade is limitless.  For small creatures anyway

A true desert landscape

We reached the top, signed the visitor book, and got cooked by the sun.  Sunscreen does no good as you sweat it off 5 minutes after applying it.  Our original plan was to hike it at night and be at the top to see the sun rise, however since we are well into snake season we decided a practice hike in the light was a good idea.   Nobody saw a snake, nobody got bit, but everybody got fried.
